What is IFSC code ? how to find IFSC code?


The full form of IFSC code is Indian Financial System Code, it is a code used by all the branches of every bank. This code is important for RTGS and NEFT. The IFSC code is provided by RBI to every branch of every bank.

So why is IFSC code important? 
The IFSC code helps the banking system to identify the bank and its branch. It helps in facilitation of Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) both the system helps in settling of fund transfer between accounts. Mostly NEFT is used for fund transfer below 2 lakhs and transfer takes place on hourly basis from 9am to 7 pm on weekday and 9 am to 1pm on saturdays.

How to find IFSC Code?
The IFSC code of your bank's branch is give on the cheque slip. Below is the cheque leaf of HDFC bank which we can see for the code.


In the above cheque you can see the IFSC code being highlighted in red by us. The IFSC code is of 11 characters. In the above example the IFSC code is HDFC0001588 where the first four letters denote the bank, here in HDFC bank , and next seven digits the branch code.
